Since 2002, the Port Authority has partnered to provide small business counseling as part of a series of
efforts aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship and sparking business development at the COATC. Two small
businesses call COATC home as a result of those efforts.
The Port Authority's four-part strategy to encourage entrepreneurial and small business development is:
OFFERING SMALL BUSINESS COUNSELING
Free counseling services are provided on a regular basis at COATC through professional staff from the Small Business Development Center of Newark and Licking County.
Individuals considering starting a new business or expanding an existing small business are encouraged to take
advantage of the services. Office hours are scheduled as needed. Phone (740) 349-6837 to make an appointment.
CONDUCTING SMALL BUSINESS SEMINARS
The professional SBDC counselors offer seminars at COATC for individuals considering
starting a new business. Among the course offerings is Basis of A Successful Enterprise (B.A.S.E.),
a starting point for every prospective small business owner. Phone (740) 349-6837 for the latest seminar information.
OPENING UP MARKETS FOR SMALL BUSINESS
The Port Authority, through partnerships with small business advocates, assists small companies in doing business with the government and in export trade. Navigating Government, a seminar on procurement
in the defense industry was held on the COATC campus Nov. 14, 2003.
SERVING AS A SMALL BUSINESS LOCATION
The COATC is an incubator for small business. The Port Authority has available buildings and available sites that are well-suited for small business. For
example, Jamco and K&H are currently leasing building space from the Port Authority as a result of small
business attraction efforts.
