Hottinger, Householder Rep. Visit COATC
State Senator Jay Hottinger and Ryan Miller, a representative for Speaker Larry Householder, met with business and government officials Friday, December 20th as part of a briefing and tour of the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center. In addition to COATC tenants and Port Authority Board members, dignitaries participating included County Commissioners Marcia Phelps and Jay Baird, Heath Mayor Daniel Dupps, and Heath Auditor Keith Alexander.

Port Authority Welcomes BAE Systems to COATC
BAE SYSTEMS North America completed its acquisition of Condor Pacific Industries today in a deal first announced October 22. CPI employs 46 people at COATC where it provides the engineering for inertial guidance systems. BAE Systems, formerly British Aerospace, is a top aerospace and defense industry company with 22,000 U.S. employees.

The Port Authority has invited its customers and friends to a holiday luncheon and open house on Wednesday, December 11 at the Port Authority offices on the COATC campus.

Project Review: A Productive Winter Awaits
A review of Port Authority projects coming into the Winter months shows a busy off-construction season is in store for the COATC. A keystone project is modernization of the on-Base Conference Center, the first major upgrade in 30 years.

Port Authority Auction Achieves Success
The Port Authority's 2002 auction, despite a light drizzle and cold, attracted 250 auction goers. This year's auction included excess office equipment, computers, and business machinery.

On-Base Project: Building 3 Refurbishing Nearly Complete
Except for some minor touch-ups, the painting and refurbishing of Building 3, the maintenance shop building, on the COATC campus is now complete. The painting project got done thanks to a brief period of warmth this Fall. Many on-Base buildings bragged "Desert Storm Kahki" as the color of choice. Painting projects like this one have helped to approve aesthetics of the campus without a major, capital investment.

Bionetics, Lockheed Martin Cut Ribbon on New Investment at COATC
Officials of Bionetics Corporation and Lockheed Martin cut the ribbon on the newly-configured Lockheed Martin Calibration Procedures Department within Building 4 on the COATC Campus. Bionetics and its contract partners, such as Lockheed Martin, hold the AF contract for calibration of test equipment worldwide. The department takes advantage of some of the clean room space on-site at COATC.

Port Authority Auction Set for Saturday Nov. 16
A public auction is always a slice of Americana in its own right and the Port Authority's auction is no exception. As property at the COATC becomes excess, the Port Authority arranges for an absolute auction. The Saturday morning auction on Nov. 16 could prove to be a place to find bargains among used office equipment, computers, and business machinery.

General Browning to Lead Aerospace and Defense Council
Retired Brig. Gen. Richard (Dick) Browning was officially named aerospace and defense industry advisor for the Taft Administration. Browning is a native of Central Ohio.

Senator Voinovich Visits COATC
U.S. Senator George Voinovich visited COATC Monday for a tour of the Boeing Guidance Repair Center and to meet with local government and business officials. The visit highlighted Ohio's role in military preparedness while also boosting economic development efforts at COATC.

Small Business Seminar Set for Oct. 30
“Basis of A Successful Enterprise (B.A.S.E.),” a seminar for individuals considering starting a new business, has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 30, 2002 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the offices of the Port Authority. Individuals considering starting a new business or expanding an existing small business are encouraged to attend.

U.S. Senator George Voinovich will visit COATC Monday, October 21 for a tour of the former Newark Air Force Base and meet with local government and business officials.

Bridge Opens to Traffic
The west bridge repair project is now complete and open to traffic once again. The detours have been removed. General contractor Claggett and Sons of Newark completed the project ahead of schedule and on budget. See before and after photos of the project here on-line.

Bridge May Open This Week
Weather permitting, the west bridge repair project will be completed this week and bring an end to the detours on the COATC campus. The project is now over 75% complete. Track the construction progress here on-line.

Light at the End of the Detour
The start of concrete work on the bridge repair project is a signal of a near-end to the detours on the COATC campus. The project is now over 50% complete. COATC has officially become a "stop" on the e-Corridor. The e-Corridor is Ohio's effort to highlight high-tech companies and locations around the state.

Small Business Counseling Session Set for Oct. 9
Small business counseling services will be available during office hours set from 1PM to 5PM on Wednesday, October 9. The session is with professionals from the Central Ohio Manufacturing Small Business Development Center and the Small Business Development Center of Newark and Licking County. The Port Authority partnered to provide these services as part of an effort to encourage entrepreneurship and spark business development at the COATC.

Former Port Authority and Base Official Mourned
The Licking County community, the Port Authority, and friends of the former Newark Air Force Base mourn the death of Stephen Hoar of Newark. Hoar was active in his community and was a former member of the Port Authority board.

October 1 marks the six-year anniversary of the creation of the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center. It was Oct. 1, 1996 when the Air Force turned over ownership of the former Newark AFB to the Port Authority.

Ohio unveiled the Innovation Ohio Revolving Loan Fund as part of its new Third Frontier Project. The $100 million fund is aimed at helping Ohio companies advance new commercial products.

Contract Signed For Bridge Repair
The contract for repair of the western-most bridge entering the COATC campus was signed with general contractor Claggett & Sons of Newark today. Support For Foreign Trade Zone Expansion Grows
National, state, and local officials are among those lending their support to the Port Authority's application for expansion of Foreign Trade Zone 138 to the COATC. Rickenbacker Port Authority, manager of FTZ#138, expects to make formal application to add 49 acres in Central Licking County this Fall.
